Statement
To collect, maintain, and preserve materials and collections which give evidence of the historical development and growth of Anderson University and the Church of God Movement (Anderson, IN). Anderson University and the Church of God Movement (Anderson, IN) have a rich heritage. The Archives focuses on collecting, organizing, and preserving unpublished material, such as letters, manuscripts, and reports, so that they may be available for research. The Archives maintains four areas of emphasis:
Many of the Archives major collections are catalogued in the Robert A. Nicholson University Library’s online catalog. The Archives are located adjacent to the Robert A. Nicholson University Library on the campus of Anderson University, Anderson, IN. Anderson University Collection The University Collection emphasizes the official records of Anderson University from its 1917 inception as Anderson Bible Training School to the present. The collections include the papers of presidents John A. Morrison and Robert H. Reardon, and of dean Russell Olt. Other collections of note are clipping scrapbooks (1929-present) and photographic proofs and negatives (1959-present). Church of God Movement (Anderson, IN) Collection This Collection preserves official records and personal papers related to the history and development of the Church of God Reformation Movement. Notable collections include:
The Collection also includes congregational and regional histories, books written by Church of God authors, books published by Gospel Trumpet Company/Warner Press, Church of God pamphlets, Christian education curriculum, and national and regional periodicals. Because the Church of God is congregational in nature, there are very few records of genealogical interest. Wilson lived in Anderson from 1921 to 1928, during his service as an executive of Delco-Remy Corporation, a division of General Motors Corporation. He became President of General Motors Corporation in 1941, and was nominated by President Dwight David Eisenhower to serve as Secretary of Defense, a position he occupied from 1951 to 1957. The Collection includes personal correspondence, bound volumes of Wilson’s speeches, and scrapbooks of clippings. A significant collection of hymnals and other materials related to American hymnody, formerly owned by the Hymn Society of America, is housed as a special collection within the Archives. |
